Burckhardt Compression, GS1 Switzerland and BloqSens explore the way forward for Digital Product Passports (DPP)

Basel, 12.03.2025 – In view of the imminent introduction of Digital Product Passports (DPP) in the EU, Burckhardt Compression, GS1 Switzerland and BloqSens have carried out a successful pilot project together. The aim was to understand the requirements of the DPP regulation, identify opportunities for companies and implement the demo version of a DPP using an exemplary product.

DPPs are expected to become mandatory for compressors by 2030, as they are already considered energy-related products (ErP). The pilot project with industry partner Burckhardt Compression focused on a compressor valve and examined the impact on IT architecture and data management.

The pilot showed that dealing with DPP issues at an early stage helps companies to prepare optimally and benefit from new opportunities. The use of established GS1 standards also enables a high level of interoperability with other systems. “Open, globally interoperable standards make it possible to implement new requirements as quickly as possible and thus have a direct impact,” emphasizes Dominik Halbeisen, Standards Expert Technical Industries at GS1.

“Early planning of the future IT architecture enables an efficient rollout of the future DPP,” explains Peter Krummenacher, CEO of BloqSens AG.
