The DPP is expected to be mandatory initially for products in resource-intensive sectors such as electronics, textiles, batteries and construction products. The exact list of products will be expanded in line with EU requirements and specific legislation.
The Ecodesign Directive (ESPR), which announced the introduction of digital product passports, “applies to any physical goods that are placed on the market or put into service, including components and intermediate products.”
However, it does not apply to
- food
- feed
- medicinal products
- veterinary medicinal products
- living plants, animals and micro-organisms
- products of human origin
- products of plants and animals relating directly to their future reproduction
