A DPP will not necessarily be created individually at item level for all product groups in every industry. There will be product groups for which the DPP is only needed at model or batch level, and others for which there is actually a separate product passport.
Batteries are a good example to illustrate these different requirements.
The digital battery passport, which will be mandatory in the EU from February 2027, applies to larger batteries, i.e. EV batteries, LMT batteries (in scooters or e-bikes) and industrial batteries >2kWh.
In this category, individual battery passports are created. In two identical car models with identical battery models, two different, individual battery passes must be referenced accordingly.
This requirement does not apply to small household batteries (e.g. button cells or AA/AAA batteries in remote controls, etc.).
It is expected that a separate product pass will only be required for a single battery model, but at most for individual production batches.
